These funds are used to support all the SEP activities. BELGIUM SEP has been the beneficiary of a number of organizations in Belgium, and this on a regular basis. Marie-Delacroix Foundation helped SEP to start up its services 10 years ago. Lions Torhout and Noord-Zuid Zwevegem are some of the main sponsors. Schools have done fundraising activities and many individuals have given contributions to enable SEP to continue its activities. Capacity Building for Children with Special Needs in Kenya: Support for Special Needs Institutions The project has been working since January 2000 in different locations: Well wishers interested in funding any of the above projects are invited to contact the SEP office on how to transfer contributions to the SEP account.
Since February 2008, BGFO-SEP (Belgische Groepering voor de Financiële Ondersteuning van Special Education Professionals in Kenia) was founded and has been recognized as a project of the Koning Boudewijnstichting for the following project: Production of Therapeutic and Educative Toys The goal of this project is to create a professional workshop with the necessary machines/materials to design and make adapted toys of good quality using child-friendly materials, for poor Kenyan families with a child with special needs. The target group is children and adolescents with a visual, physical, mental, hearing or multiple handicap. During the SEP consultations and workshops for families from the slums, and the visits to schools and centres, SEP realized that there was a severe lack of stimulation due to financial limitations. With this project, SEP wants to be able to donate a basic set of toys to families, schools and centres to ensure stimulation and training of specific skills necessary for development and independent living. SEP works with about 100 families annually, and is currently supporting 10 schools and centres. The contribution will be used for the first phase of this project. We foresee a time frame of two years to create a gamma of adapted toys with local carpenters, welders, and tailors. The idea is to sell the toys at the local market to enable further production of adapted toys after those two years. If you want to support this project, you can make a financial contribution to: Koning Boudewijnstichting, Brussel Account 000-0000004-04 Project number L82171 – BGFO – SEP These contributions are tax-deductible. THE NETHERLANDS Wereldkinderen is a Dutch organization that supports projects that enable children without a home, to be brought up in a family or in a family replacing situation in their own country. Wereldkinderen is sponsoring one of the big projects of SEP for a period of three years. The project is called: Capacity Building for Children with Special Needs in Kenya: Support for 7 Schools and Homes The project started in January 2007 assisting in 7 special needs institutions: The contribution enabled SEP to hire two part-time occupational therapists who work in the project. This results in more and faster major interventions and continuity in the follow-up. Intern SEP members also visit the projects on a weekly basis. A large part of the contribution is invested in materials and equipment designed and adapted to the specific and individualized needs of the children in each location. The main goal is to improve the functionality in those children. For more information about the specific locations, click on the links above.
